What's to stop a drunk driver from running you over in a crosswalk and
turning your body into a bloody pulp?

Well, the other difference is that when a burglar breaks in to my house and
steals $500, the perp will probably spend it on drugs, or booty, or maybe
that late car payment or a million other things, but the odds are pretty low
he or she will use it to run out and buy a gun.
OTOH, if the burglar finds a gun in my home, they walk away a criminal with
a gun. Maybe they start mugging people. Maybe they sell it to some felon
who otherwise can't get a gun. Either way, it's a gun in criminal hands,
that's a bad thing.
Which is why we need to require unattended guns in your home be stored
either locked up or at least secured with a trigger lock. Dissuade the
crazy lame ass crackheads and junkies who make up 95% of burglars, and won't
want to bother trying to get open a decent quality gun safe, or even a well
locked box (they're looking for easy to sell stuff, not something that
involves work).
See, there is a difference.
As for the mugging, if a bad guy surprises you with a gun pulled out (or two
or three guys with guns), they're isn't shit you can do. They can go
through your pockets, pat you down, take your weapon and anything else they
want. Pretty obvious fact, and so concealed carry only manages to give
perps a huge incentive to be carrying and pull first.

Virtually none of you have experience with the scenarios you spin, you've
just watched too many movies.
Law enforcement people who have generally agree that when someone wants to
rob you, the answer is not to pull out a gun, it's to hand over your money

I can see some enterprising criminal making a good
living off of stealing open carry guns. Once he has the
gun in your back, he takes your gun.
You obviously know nothing about guns or carrying.

I'll let you enlighten yourself. We have several states
with Open Carry. Feel free to enlighten yourself as to how
many times the above-mentioned gun theft has occurred.
Well I favor open carry if you're gonna carry a gun at all,
and I probably would carry a gun openly out to a shooting
range on my bicycle.
So what's the deal with open carry? Why wouldn't it be more
preferable than concealed carry both for the gun owner and the
public?
I really don't understand why it's controversial.

Allowing citizens to carry concealed extends the protection of being
armed beyond the person so armed. It creates uncertainty in the mind
of the criminal: "is this person armed or not?" Open carry protects
only those so armed or those in the company of one so armed.
As to why open carry is controversial, you got me there.
